Storytelling is a great way to teach moral values. Stories teach by attraction rather than compulsion; they invite rather than impose. They capture the imagination and touch the heart. A good story can always stir strong feelings; which is why storytelling is such a natural way to engage and develop the emotional side of a child’s character.
– Paul Vitz, American Psychologist Magazine

“Today’s Child”
Keynote address and Teacher Training

Lou Del Bianco has been using the principles of character education in his autobiographical songs and stories for more than 15 years. In the first part of his presentation, Lou outlines Thomas Lickona’s principles of moral decision making, providing a formula that educators can use in their classrooms. Lou makes Mr. Lickona’s principles come alive through his popular presentation “Make a Good Choice!”
In the second half of the workshop, Lou models how storytelling, theater and music appeal to multiple intelligences. All of the activities in this presentation demonstrate the unique ways in which the arts inspire the use of more effective and creative language.

This 1 hour presentation is ideal for:

• Keynote Address
• Teacher Training
• Professional Development

“Make a Good Choice!” Workshop (Back to Top)

Lou models his own childhood stories and through them gives students tools they can use to make good choices in their own lives. Based on Thomas Lickona’s principles of moral decision making, Lou has created a formula that asks 3 simple questions: “What do you know? What do you feel? What do you do?” Lou makes this simple formula come alive for students, allowing them to:

Express feelings and ideas through discussion and writing activities
See through others’ eyes (Perspective Taking)
Engage in Improvisation and role playing

By the end of the workshop, teachers and students will put this formula in to practice and try to make better choices then before.

This workshop works in conjunction with the “Make a Good Choice!” assembly program or on its own.

A 50 minute workshop. Adapted for grades 1-6. Study Guides Available.

"The 'Make a Good Choice Program' is a great way to support Character Education as it not only helps teach children about universally recognized and accepted human values such as respect and kindness, but also engenders their commitment to these values; thereby, enabling them to truly "walk the talk of good character".

“Make a Good Choice” is electric! The students were so involved. We were able to refer back to scenarios from your show when some classroom situations arose. Thanks!

“Wow! I loved the Making Good Choices Assembly. I learned a lot about kindness and self-control. Yesterday I was playing wall ball and everyone was screaming. I felt bad because my feelings were hurt so bad. Since I saw the show it made me feel better and I was not sad anymore but now I am so happy.
